The New Kitchen – Part 1

My parents gave me a new kitchen for Christmas.  It was a wonderful surprise, one that I know I don’t deserve.

I’d been at Ikea, drawing up plans for the cupboards I’d need, and when I looked around, they had all of these stacked pallets of already put together cabinets.  They were $75 each, so naturally, I took 2.  Called my brother up, he sent a truck over and off they went to the warehouse where he works.

That was a month and a half ago.

Naturally, I had no idea just what I’d bought except I knew that I’d had 2 – 30″ base cabinets, and 1 – 24″ base cabinets – and a whole bunch of 15″ uppers – the majority of which were white (the color I needed).  So, Bryan and I inventoried them – and then I found out which remaining pieces I’d need.

When Bryan came over last week, I’d already packed my kitchen, and removed all of the doors and shelves from my old cabinets so we could take them out.  That took all of an hour.

The next step was waiting for the electrician, and then the inspector.  This is where I’d run into a little snag.  The inspector didn’t get to my house until 3:30 on Friday afternoon.  There was no way I was ever going to be able to patch the holes, and paint so Bryan could come over to help me hang cabinets on Saturday.  Then I found out that I suck at putting up sheet rock.  So again, Bryan helped me.  He patched, I sanded, I re-patched, put together all of the cabinets and then painted the ceiling.

That’s where I am right now.

My ceiling is painted and I’ve covered the big green patch on one of my walls.  I’ve been living in a pit for about 2 weeks and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.  The whole place is covered in drywall dust and I’m allergic to latex so I’m itching all over.  I’m tired.  I’m whining.  I want done.

I’m going to take a bath…

It’s a Brand New Day!

There are times when you know that you have to start all over, even though it’s not what you want to do.  Yesterday, I pulled all of the backlog of A Fresh New Hell off of the web because there was no way to save the previous entries for the last 7 years.  So, as this is my ‘birthday”  I thought I’d start at the beginning.

I am officially starting over.  This is officially…
